Rania’s intergalactic station
picked up a signal from an unknown ship
on one of it’s radars.
notifying the systems controller of the finding
a query were sent out to it.
the unknown ship replied, simply:
‘THIS IS COMPUTER, FOR THE CANADIAN MOON BASE CARGO SHIP SPEAKING.
I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO LOCATE YOU FOR MANY YEARS NOW.
I KNEW NOT WHERE TO LOOK AFTER YOUR PLANET WAS DESTROYED.
ALL OF THIS SHIP’S 238 INHABITANTS ARE IN A STASIS FIELD.
I AM PROCEEDING TO REVIVE THEM, AS I AM SURE THEY WILL HAVE A
PLACE IN WHICH TO CONTINUE LIVING NORMAL LIVES.
THANK YOU FOR ACKNOWLEDGING YOUR PRESENCE.
COMPUTER FOR CANADIAN MOON BASE, OUT.’
suspicious, syscon immediately notified Delte Nein.
with the Earth as well as it’s 2 Moons being destroyed, so long ago
very few of the original inhabitants that had been saved, were still alive.
Delte Nein had only the archives and historians with which to confer.
and what, was this ‘stasis field’ that the computer had referred to?
something sci-fi type, Larry Niven’ish? Was this Niven’s Known Space after all?
having acknowledged receipt of the message,
the unknown ship may very well know Rania’s location
syscon staff warned Delte Nein of.
in attempting to sense the unknown ship’s contents
Delte Nein confirmed 238 lifeforms.
“Send the ship our coordinates. We shall welcome them.”
